This staggering disaster movie envisions doomsday when the earth’s core heats up causing crustal displacement. Cusack and Harrelson are among the humans running for cover, but the real star is the special effects, which are jaw-dropping.

Director Burton's interpretation of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland stories is stunning, sending Alice down the rabbit hole and into a bizarre and hallucinatory world, peopled with incredible characters, not least of them The Mad Hatter (Depp), and Bonham Carter's Red Queen.

From Joel and Ethan Coen comes this story of a professor whose wife leaves him - leading him to try and become 'a serious man’. As you expect from the Coen brothers it is witty, rich in dialogue with subtle performances.

One for the kids, this does exactly what it says on the tin, revisiting the chipmunk Pop sensations Alvin, Simon and Theodore enjoying a life of superstardom. Then they find themselves under threat from three singing chipmunks known as The Chipettes…

Stars: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor

Swank is note perfect as aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart in this stately biopic, which follows her life right up to her fateful attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Rich with great performances and period detail, it’s a beautifully framed piece.

Bollywood comedy about a happily married couple whose lives are turned upside down by the arrival of an unexpected guest claiming to be a distant relative. At first, they welcome the man but soon become tired of him - and then begin inventing ways to get rid of him.

A landmark movie, Avatar has broken box office records everywhere thanks in no small part to its jaw-dropping use of special effects. Yet while the alien world on which it is set is stunningly realised, it’s not to the detriment of a compelling storyline. This is an extraordinary film.

Bullock has scooped several awards including the Best Actress Golden Globe for her turn in this true-life sports drama. She plays an Southern socialite who adopts football player 'Big Mike' during his amazing, inspiring journey from poverty to one of the game’s brightest prospects. Don’t miss this: as well as the great performances it has heart and humour in abundance.


THE BOOK OF ELI

Book of Eli

Stars: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis
Director: Albert & Alan Hughes

Washington has an immense presence in this original action thriller, playing a post-apocalyptic warrior who safeguards a much sought after manuscript. However the self imposed local law enforcer (Oldman) wants the manuscript too, so expect plenty of jaw-dropping action as the two clash - the whole thing plays out like an end-of-the-world spaghetti western.


BROTHERS

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire
Director: Jim Sheridan

A real actor's piece here, and one that earned a Golden Globe nomination for Maguire as Sam, who returns from fighting in Afghanistan to find his brother (Gyllenhaal) taking care of his family - not a development he welcomes. What follows is top-notch drama and an acting masterclass from all three principles. A powerful and captivating drama.


CRAZY HEART

Stars: Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall, Colin Farrell
Director: Scott Cooper

Bridges has been Oscar nominated for his turn as a broken-down country music singer with plenty of demons that he attempts to drown with drink. However, redemption arises in the shape of a journalist who attempts to discover the real man behind the mask.

After mysterious toxic chemicals are leaked into the water supply, the residents of a small town in Iowa become psychotic killers. The unaffected residents have to come together in order to fight for survival in this gruesome horror flick.


THE DAMNED UNITED

The Damned United

Stars: Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Colm Meaney
Director: Tom Hooper

Sheen is brilliant as iconic and controversial U.K. football manager Brian Clough in a captivating drama that details his torrid time managing Leeds United. The period detail is exquisite, but as usual it is Sheen's performance as the charismatic Clough that you’ll remember.


EDGE OF DARKNESS

The Edge Of Darkness

Stars: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston
Director: Martin Campbell

This update and remake of the British TV classic stars Gibson as Craven, a homicide detective whose daughter is murdered. Craven assumes he was their target but evidence suggests otherwise and as he learns more about her secret life, he becomes involved shadowy world of conspiracies and cover-ups. An emotional and gritty thriller, with Gibson in cracking form.


THE FANTASTIC MR FOX

Director: Wes Anderson
English with Japanese Dual Language - Chinese Subtitles

From director Anderson comes this animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's novel. It finds Mr Fox putting his wild nights behind him in order to be a responsible father - after ‘one more raid', that is. Fantastic in name, fantastic in nature.


FROM PARIS WITH LOVE

From Paris With Love

Stars: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Kasia Smutniak
Director: Pierre Morel

Hard-hitting thriller, starring Rhys Meyers as a naïve undercover agent who is teamed up with a trigger-happy partner. An on-form Travolta provides many of the film's guilty pleasures in this adrenaline fuelled actioner.
