Recap: Los Angeles

We kicked things off on Thursday, February 18 in downtown Los Angeles, where some of LA’s most brilliant business minds discussed “Why Simple Solutions Cross Borders,” focusing on how no brainer ideas can rock the world.

Sir Richard Branson, who shook up the aviation industry over 30 years ago with the launch of Virgin Atlantic, was joined by a panel of other ground-breaking disruptors who are living proof that a simple idea can become a global sensation: Miguel McKelvey, Co-Founder, WeWork (opens in a new window) (opens in a new window); Cassey Ho, Founder, Blogilates (opens in a new window); Sean Rad, Founder and CEO, Tinder (opens in a new window).

Moderated by television personality, billion-dollar dealmaker, entrepreneur, and author Carol Roth, the event also featured a selection of exciting LA companies who shared their ideas with the panel in exchange for guidance and advice. Heal (opens in a new window), HopSkipDrive (opens in a new window), and FocusMotion (opens in a new window) were each given the spotlight to share their business plans in front of an audience made up of over 300 peers, incubators, investors and media.

Some of LA’s fastest growing start-ups were also featured before and after the panel discussion, including Soothe (opens in a new window), the leading on-demand massage platform for same-day at-home massage bookings, and interactive hologram technology company, VNTANA (opens in a new window).

With support from General Assembly (opens in a new window) and WeWork (opens in a new window) (opens in a new window), the crowd also walked away with the tools needed to build their own start-ups: guests received a tuition credit towards GA’s courses on data, design, technology and business skills, and 1 month membership to access the WeWork space community, and services.

The event trended #1 on Twitter in Los Angeles (#LetItFlyLA) and was viewed via live stream by over 1,600 people.

Look out for more information on our Boston event, coming this fall!
