Virgin Atlantic appoints new marketing director

Virgin Atlantic, one of the world’s leading airlines, is pleased to announce that Simon Lloyd will be joining the airline as Marketing Director from 10 July 2012.
Julie Southern, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic, said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon to this key position at Virgin Atlantic. The airline has always been at the forefront of creative and innovative marketing and as one of the biggest brands in the world, marketing is key to our business. Simon has a strong commercial focus, a huge thirst for continuous improvement and an excellent understanding of our business goals. I am confident that he will be able to build on our creative marketing strengths and take the airline forward when he joins us in July.”
Commenting on his appointment, Simon Lloyd said: “Virgin Atlantic is such an iconic brand and is renowned for its distinctive cheeky and fun personality. I’m really looking forward to building on the incredible success of the airline and taking its marketing activity forward not only in the UK, but all around the world.”
Simon joins Virgin Atlantic with a wealth of marketing experience, most recently with the BBC as Director of Media Engagement, Marketing and Audiences where he had responsibility for the distribution of all BBC marketing content across all platforms including digital, TV, Radio, Events and Shows. He was also the Director responsible for the strategic marketing and brand leadership of BBC Sport, Radio 5Live, Children’s and Learning. Prior to this Simon was the Marketing Director for the BBC Future Media and Digital division responsible for the audience insight, strategic development and marketing of the BBC’s digital services such as BBC iPlayer and BBC Online.
Prior to the BBC Simon has held senior Marketing and Commercial positions at Palm, 118118 and Nokia.
In his new role at Virgin Atlantic, Simon will report in to Julie Southern, Chief Commercial Officer.
