We all know money is only ever part of the solution. So we have a number of global volunteering projects that embrace and use all the technology, services and people skills we have at our disposal.
A great example of this work is a school project we recently completed in Kenya. Working with our charity and Flying Club teams, ten of our Flying Club Gold members rolled up their sleeves and transformed the run-down Sekenani School in the Maasai Mara. Though the school's kitchens and classrooms were also in need of urgent repair, the project was focused on building and furnishing a 'boys and girls' dormitory with adjoining shower blocks to enable official boarding school status and qualify for government funding.
The school has so much land and now has a really good supply of water from their new solar pump. We are now looking to send agricultural experts to the school to see if there are certain crops that can be grown on the premises. The hope is that it will make the school more self-sufficient and sustainable with the longer-term aim of growing enough crops to sell on to local game reserve lodges.
