AM I BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU?:
This acclaimed documentary not only gives Philly soul singer Billy Paul, (best known for his number one Me and Mrs Jones) long overdue recognition, but also casts an illuminating light on music and race in the 1970s. Plus, of course, it's got a terrific soundtrack.
BIG RIVER MAN:
Filmmaker John Maringouin takes a look at Martin Strel the rather eccentric Slovenian ultra marathon swimmer as he prepares the perilous task of taking on the Amazon. Overweight and downing two bottles of wine a day he's hardly the ideal candidate and this creates tension with his son, who's also his manager and the film's narrator. It really is a breathtaking journey and should not be missed.
BUSTIN' DOWN THE DOOR:
There is a crucial period in surfing history, that being the winter of 1975, when a band of youthful surfers from South Africa and Australia took themselves off to Hawaii and revolutionised the sport by creating its entire look and ethos - organising what was then merely a past-time into the global industry it has become today. The film is full of breathtaking archive footage, and the soundtrack is superb.
THE COVE:
This documentary has been winning awards right, left and centre thanks to its genre-defying mix of environmental concerns and nail-biting thriller techniques. It follows a group of conservationists as they go undercover in covert operation to film the mass slaughter of dolphins in the coastal town of Taiji in Japan. It is upsetting and powerful in equal measure without being either preachy or condescending. Definitely not to be missed.

IMAGINE: DAMON AND JAMIE'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE:
Alan Yentob goes behind the scenes at Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s (the duo behind Gorillaz) operatic adaptation of Wu Cheng’en’s epic novel Monkey: Journey to the West. The pair travels to China to find inspiration and a cast to bring their work to life.
JAMES MAY ON THE MOON:
The Top Gear man commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings, meeting three of the astronauts who walked on the moon, as well as experiencing G force. Then dons his own space suit to fly to the edge of space in a surprisingly moving scene that sees May lost for words.
LOVE THE BEAST:
Hollywood A-lister Eric Bana directs this surprisingly touching documentary about the history of his car, a 1974 Falcon Coupe. Along the way he seeks advice from Jay Leno and our very own Jeremy Clarkson, making it every petrol-heads dream watch.
PIERS MORGAN ON...HOLLYWOOD:
Ex-newspaper editor and talent show judge Piers Morgan gets under the skin of Tinseltown to find out how British talent is faring in La La Land. Those he meets include Sharon Osbourne and Mr Fantastic himself, Ioan Gruffudd.
