(500) Days of Summer
Cert: 12, Romance, 95 mins
Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Geoffrey Arend
Director: Marc Webb

This funny, perceptive and decidedly quirky rom-com offers an insight into the 'love blindness' we all suffer at one time or another, as Tom falls for Summer (Deschanel), even though she has no truck with love or relationships.

12 ROUNDS

12 Rounds
Cert: 12, Action, 108 mins
Stars: John Cena, Brian White, Aidan Gillen
Director: Renny Harlin

Cena stars as detective Danny Fisher, forced to play dangerous games with a terrorist who has kidnapped his girlfriend. Plenty of action to get to grips with plus heaps of against-the-clock suspense - just what you'd expect from the director of Die Hard 2.

ADAM

Adam
Cert: 12, Comedy, 99 mins
Stars: Hugh Dancy, Rose Byrne, Peter Gallagher
Director: Max Mayer

This beguiling comedy-drama stars Dancy as a lonely guy who has led a rather sheltered life. That is, until he meets his feisty new neighbour, Beth (Byrne - who shines here) and the two begin a faltering relationship.

ADVENTURELAND

Adventureland
Cert: 15, Comedy, 107 mins
Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds
Director: Greg Mottola

From Superbad director Mottola comes this romantic comedy set in a brilliantly realised 1987 and starring Eisenberg as a brainy, virginal college grad forced to take a dead-end job at a local amusement park - only to fall in love.

ANGELS AND DEMONS

Angels & Demons
Cert: 12, Thriller, 138 mins
Stars: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer
Director: Ron Howard

The second adaptation of a Dan 'Da Vinci Code' Brown novel sees Hanks returning as symbolist Robert Langdon, this time trying to prevent a bomb exploding at the Vatican and rescue four cardinals kidnapped by an Illuminati assassin - all in the space of four hours. As you can imagine, it's a nail-chewing experience.

THE BOAT THAT ROCKED

The Boat That Rocked
Cert: 15, Comedy, 130 mins
Stars: Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Philip Seymour Hoffman
Director: Richard Curtis
English / Japanese dual language

You're practically guaranteed a good time with this line-up of writer/director Richard 'Love Actually' Curtis, and stars Rhys Ifans and Bill Nighy. Set in the swinging Sixties, it revolves around an offshore pirate radio and is very funny indeed.

BRUNO

Bruno
Cert: 18, Comedy, 82 mins
Stars: Sacha Baron Cohen, Gustaf Hammarsten, Trishelle Cannatella
Director: Larry Charles

Sacha Baron Cohen ushers another of his comedy alter egos to the big screen and this time it's gay fashionista Brüno, who sets off across the States in search of the 'American Dream'. Very funny, shocking, and quite possibly offensive.

CORALINE

Coraline
Cert: PG, Animation, 100 mins
Voices of: Teri Hatcher, Dakota Fanning, Ian McShane
Director: Henry Selick

Critics have been hailing this as one of the best children's movies of recent years. It revolves around Coraline, who moves to a new home where she finds a secret door leading to a happier version of her own world. But all is not what it seems on the other side. Think The Nightmare Before Christmas and you’re on the right lines, so younger children may find this a little scary.

CRANK HIGH VOLTAGE

Crank: High Voltage
Cert: 18, Action, 96 mins
Stars: Jason Stratham, David Carradine, Corey Haim
Director: Neveldine & Taylor

Funny, fast and OTT action with Statham returning as Chev Chelios, who wakes up to find his heart has been removed and replaced with a gizmo that needs electricity to function. Chev has just an hour to find his real heart - as well as getting the all-important jolts he needs to stay alive.

DUPLICITY

Owen and Roberts sizzle in this fun, espionage-based romantic thriller about an MI6 agent (Owen) who joins forces with his CIA counterpart (Roberts) to pull off a massive sting. Of course, they're attracted to each other. But can they trust each other?

Festive Comedy about a couple who usually avoid having to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas day. However, bad weather foils their plans and now they must spend the festive season doing what they most dread – four Christmases in one day.
