FIGHT POVERTY THROUGH TRADE
Virgin Atlantic is passionate about supporting destinations we fly to and through our partnership with Free The Children we are able to do just that!
This month we are all very excited to launch an exclusive range of beautiful Me to We Artisans handcrafted jewellery in our Retail Therapy magazine. Each piece is unique and is made by the mamas in the Maasia Mara, providing them with a source of sustainable income to support their families and send their children to school. This is all part of Free The Children’s alternative income programming which specifically targets marginalised women and provides them with the resources and skills they need to develop a small business; such as jewellery making, milking/breeding animals, beehives for honey production micro loans and financial literacy workshops. These projects are designed around local traditions to improve their social welfare, cultivating locally based employment and skills which encourages families and young people to stay in their own communities rather than resort to urban sprawl which has a large social-cultural implications for rural and indigenous populations So don’t forget to find your copy of Retail Therapy and see the range of beautiful handcrafted jewellery made by the mamas in the Maasia Mara in Kenya. You can help too! Change for Children, our onboard appeal is supporting Free The Children in villages in India, Kenya and China. You can make a real difference for individuals in these villages by placing any foreign currency or loose change in the Change for Children envelope in your amenity kit. To ensure your donation is safe, please hand it to a crew member. On behalf of the villagers and villages who need your help, a massive thank you! |
