STEVE RIDGWAY - CHIEF EXECUTIVE


Steve Ridgway is the Chief Executive of Virgin Atlantic Airways. Steve has been part of the team running the company since 1994, becoming Managing Director in April 1998 and then Chief Executive from October 2001.

Steve joined Virgin Atlantic in 1990 when he was appointed Managing Director of Virgin Freeway, launching the UK's first automated frequent flyer programme. In 1994 Steve was appointed to the Airline Board as Executive Director Customer Services.


Following two years as Business Development Manager at Toleman Group, Steve worked for Cougar Marine in Miami from 1981 until 1985. During this time he was the Project Head and Chief Pilot on the two Virgin Atlantic Challengers, designing and developing the boats, which culminated in the successful re-capturing the Blue Riband record for the fastest crossing of the North Atlantic.

Along with Chay Blyth, Steve then founded Epsilon, Business Development Consultancy in 1989, which led to the creation of the hugely successful British Steel Challenge and The BT Global Challenge Round the World Race in 1992-93 and 1996-97.

Steve received a BSc Economics at London University followed by a PGCE in 1976.
