WHAT WE COLLECT AND WHY
We ask for information about you in 9 areas of our website as follows:
a) When making an online flight booking

Here the information we will ask you for includes your: name; contact details such as phone and e mail; frequent flyer details (if applicable); credit card details, your meal preference and occasionally information pertaining to your health.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to provide your full name, date of birth, and gender for the purpose of watch list screening, under the authority of 49 U.S.C. section 114, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 and 49 C.F.R parts 1540 and 1560. You may also provide your Redress Number, if available. Failure to provide your full name, date of birth, and gender may result in denial of transport or denial of authority to enter the boarding area. TSA may share information you provide with law enforcement or intelligence agencies or others under its published system of records notice. We need all this information to process an airline ticket for you, manage your travel experience and in order to be able to contact you, if we need more information or if there are any changes to our flights. We will retain this information to service any post-flight queries, and may use it to help us develop technology to better serve you in the future. This information will not be given to any third party, except to the extent and for the purpose we may be required to do so by any law or for the fulfilment of this contract between us.
b) When managing your bookings

We provide you with the online facility to review and make certain amendments to your bookings including providing us with additional information. We will use that information to update and/or amend your flight as requested and contact you if we need more information. We will retain this information to service any post-flight queries, and may use it to help us develop technology to better serve you in the future. This information will not be given to any third party, except to the extent and for the purpose we may be required to do so by any law or for the fulfilment of this contract between us.
c) When checking in online

Here the information we will ask you for includes your: name; date of birth; gender; contact details such as phone and e mail and frequent flyer details (if applicable).
Additionally, if you are flying on an APIS route, in addition to the above we will also collect your: passport number; the country your passport was issued in and the expiry date.
We need all this information to retrieve your booking for you and to check you in online. We also need this information in order to be able to contact you if we need more information or if there are any changes to our flights. We will retain this information to service any post-flight queries, and may use it to help us develop technology to better serve you in the future. This information will not be given to any third party, except to the extent and for the purpose we may be required to do so by any law or for the fulfilment of this contract between us.
We need the extra information when you travel on an APIS route as we are required to collect this information to comply with requirements for passenger entry to our destinations. This information will only be used for the specified purpose. This information will not be given to any third party, except to the extent and for the purpose we may be required to do so by any law or for the fulfilment of this contract between us.
d) When joining or using our flying club frequent flyer programme
(Purposes - "Administration of Membership Records", "Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations", "Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations for Others", "Software Development and Testing", "Research", "The Consideration of Complaints")
Here the information we will ask you for includes your : name; contact details such as email and phone numbers; address and date of birth. This is required so that we may send eligible passengers (over 12 years old) a welcome pack for our flying club programme as well as any special offers. We may also use it to help us develop technology to better serve you in the future.
In addition, our flying club partners and associated Virgin companies would like, with your permission, to send you occasional mailings about products, services special offers. This will be relevant and useful information, and we will never give your address to any organisation unconnected with flying club. On enrolment and in your personal preferences, you have the choice to opt in to receive such information. However, if you change your mind you can amend your preferences. e) When joining or using our flyingco. corporate loyalty programme

Here the information we will ask you for includes your: name; name of a secondary contact; names and membership numbers of existing flying club members, and names of new flying club members to be linked to the flyingco. account; contact details such as email and phone numbers; company name and address; country. This is required so that we may send eligible companies a welcome pack for our flyingco. programme as well as any special offers. We may also use it to help us develop technology to better serve you in the future.

f) When subscribing to email notifications

Here the information we ask from you includes your name, email address and country. This is required so that we can send to you by email at regular intervals relevant information from your country of origin on special offers and other product information on, for example, new Virgin Atlantic routes. Your details will only be used by Virgin Atlantic for the purpose described above and will not be given to any third party.
g) When applying for a job using the online application form

When applying for a job we will ask for personal information. The purpose for which your personal data will be processed is in respect of your application for potential employment. By registering your details, you are hereby granting your consent in respect of the above. Where you have provided your email address, it is required so that we can send to you by email relevant career opportunity information. Your email address will only be used by Virgin Atlantic for the purpose described above and will not be given to any third party. Your information may also be used for internal statistical and reporting purposes, but no information which may identify you will be used for this purpose.
h) When contacting Virgin Atlantic via email feedback forms

When contacting us via an email feedback form, the form requests your name, email address and an optional postal address as well as details of your enquiry. This information is required to enable us to answer your enquiry and personally respond to you via email. Your personal information will not be used for any marketing purposes.
i) When subscribing as a member of the press to receive press releases

When a member of the press subscribes to receive press releases the subscription form asks for the name, email address, contact mailing address and place of work. This is to enable our press department to email new press releases to the members of the press.
