What is Online Check In and Kiosks Check In?

Online and Kiosk Check in are products for customer to use to check themselves in for Virgin Atlantic flights.

Customers are:

  • Able to check in for their flight,
  • Have a seat assigned,
  • Change their seat assignment
  • Add or amend frequent flyer details via the Virgin Atlantic Wweb site.
Who can use Online Check In and Kiosks Check In?

Everyone with a few exceptions:

  • Un-accompanied minors or young persons travelling traveling on their own.
  • Customers checking in firearms.
  • Any customer required by Virgin Atlantic to see a member of staff before check in, or customers who do not have an MRZ passport/Credit card or frequent traveller card or don’t know their Virgin Atlantic booking reference.
  • Customers traveling to Sydney (online only).
  • Customers traveling from Nassau, Tobago and Grenada.
  • Customers already checked in.
  • Customers travelling to the US who hold document types other than a Passport or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) card.
  • Customers travelling to the US with a lap infant (Online only).
How does it work?

Online DIY ONLINE Check In

  1. Flights are opened for Online Check In from 24 hours to 2 hours prior to scheduled departure times.
  2. Click here to check-in online.
  3. Log on using name, booking reference, flight number and date of travel.
  4. Confirm your flight details and add your email address.
  5. Add any additional passengers you wish to check in with you.
  6. Confirm, amend or add any details required for immigration purposes (you will need your passport to hand to complete this).
  7. A seat will be allocated to you but you can change this by selecting the 'seat map' button.
  8. An Email will be sent to the email address you provided to confirm you are checked in.
  9. Go to the airport. Due to enhanced security screening at the airport we recommend passengers to arrive at least 2 hours prior to scheduled departure. Passengers who have failed to drop their bags and collect their boarding documents 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure of their flight will not be able to travel.
  10. At the airport go straight to a Virgin Atlantic Bag Drop, including passengers with hand luggage only.
  11. At the bag drop passengers are required to show their passport, paper tickets or E-ticket to collect their boarding documents and check their bags in.
  12. At London Gatwick, Twilight check in can also be used for online check in bagdrop.
Kiosk Check In

Arrive at the airport ideally 90 minutes before the departure time of your flight.

  1. At the kiosk begin by choosing between the following forms of Identification to access Kiosk Check In:
    • Machine - readable passport (Note: this is the fastest method).
    • Credit card (Visa, AMEX, Mastercard or Diners club).
    • Frequent flyer card (VS - Virgin Atlantic; BD - British Midland; DL - Delta; GF - Gulf Air; US - US Airways; NZ - Air New Zealand; SQ - Singapore; CO - Continental; NH - All Nippon, SA - South African Airways).
    • Virgin Atlantic booking reference.
  2. Select your Virgin Atlantic destination.
  3. Add any additional customers with whom you are checking in with.
  4. Confirm, amend or add any details required for immigration purposes (you will need your passport to hand to complete this).
  5. A seat will be allocated to you but you can change this by selecting the 'seat review' button.
  6. Amend or add frequent flyer details.
  7. Confirm if you have bags to check in.
  8. Boarding cards, lounge invites invitations (if applicable), informational coupons (if applicable) and E-ticket are printed at the kiosk.
  9. Go to a Virgin Atlantic Bag Drop if you have luggage to check in. Hand luggage passengers may proceed to departures. All bags must be checked in at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure.
Where can we use Online check In?

All flights are available for Online Check In except flights from Nassau, Tobago and Grenada.

Where can we use Kiosk Check In?

Not all flights are available for Kiosk Check In. Only flights departing from the UK and New York (JFK), except flight (VS200) from Heathrow to Sydney.

  • Kiosk Check In is available at all our U.K airports.
  • LHR - 8 Virgin Atlantic kiosks located in Zone A open between 0600 and 2100.
  • LGW - 6 Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks that we share with other airlines located at the entrance to Zone A open between 0530-1030.
  • MAN - 12 CUSS kiosks located at the entrance to T2, open between 0600-0930.
  • JFK - 4 kiosks located opposite our check-in desk in Row 3.
Where will I find the Bag Drops?

These are located next to our regular Check In desks in the airport terminal and signed accordingly.

What happens if you experience a problem using Online Check In?

If you experience a problem whilst using Online Check In, please contact your local Virgin Atlantic contact center, or see a Virgin Atlantic Airline representative on arrival at the airport.

What happens if you experience a problem using Kiosk Check In?

If you experience a problem whilst using Kiosk Check In, please present yourself to a Virgin Atlantic representative along with the information coupon issued by the kiosk.

What is a CUSS compliant Kiosk

If you experience a problem whilst using Kiosk Check In, please present yourself to a Virgin Atlantic representative along with the information coupon issued by the kiosk.
