BE AWARE
Remember, every time you use energy - switching on a light, using a computer, watching TV, cooking a meal or taking a flight, you’re creating CO2. This contributes to the Greenhouse Effect and it’s why we’re witnessing some pretty unusual weather all around the world.
In the short term climate change is likely to bring more floods, storms, droughts and stronger winds. Longer term, it places 1.8m people in Britain at risk from coastal flooding if temperatures rise by 4 degrees or more.
Please help do your part to minimise your own impact on the environment by reducing your emissions where you can. At Virgin Atlantic we’re taking a number of steps but there are things you can do too!
ADOPT GOOD HABITS!
Here are a few ways to slash your carbon emissions - and your household bills too.
WALK, CYCLE OR TAKE THE TRAIN...
Instead of taking the car to pick up a pound of tomatoes, why not cycle? Or take the train instead of a short haul flight?
PACK LIGHT...
Do you really need to take that fifth pair of shoes on your beach holiday? It all helps to reduce carbon emissions.
GO VEGGIE ONBOARD...
Vegetarian meals often uses far less carbon to produce than a meat option due to the intensive nature of livestock farming.
SLOW DOWN...
When you get to your destination, do you really need a big hire car? How about trying an electric or a smaller car?
SWITCH OFF...
When you leave your hotel remember to switch off your lights and the air-conditioning.
GO EASY...
Minimise your use of detergents to wash linen, and reuse your hotel towels and bed-linen where possible!
DESTINATION PRODUCT...
Why fly your toiletries out with you when you can sample the local luxuries, and support local business at the same time?
LIGHT RELIEF...
Apparently, spending a penny before you board your flight can help reduce your carbon footprint in the air.
