KENYA RUGBY SEVENS TEAM MAKE IT TO WORLD CUP SEMI FINALS

The first weekend in March saw the World Cup Rugby Sevens take place in Dubai and the Virgin Atlantic sponsored Kenyan team certainly gave one or two of the established rugby nations a bit of a scare!

Six months ago the Kenyan coach, Benjamin Ayimba, predicted that Kenya could win the World Cup Sevens tournament. In the group stages Kenya eased through matches against Tunisia and Hong Kong with great victories and great support from the travelling Kenyan fans. The Kenyans did enough in the Pool stages of the tournament to earn a Quarter Final match against the defending world champions, Fiji, where they caused the upset of the tournament.

Second half tries from Biko Adema, Humphrey Kayange and Collins Injera swept the defending champions aside setting up a semi-final meeting with Argentina. The Kenyan team battled hard against the South Americans but could not turn around the Argentinean’s 7-0 lead at half time.
