In true Virgin spirit, we think raising money can be great fun and we also think there's nothing like supportive partners. Last year, working with Free The Children, our staff raised over
£256,000 to provide communities in rural India and Kenya with education, water and sanitation healthcare and establish alternative incomes for villagers.
Mums always know best! That’s why were working with
Free The Children to be help mums in
Kenya,
China and
India to bring about change for their families and communities.
This year our aim is to raise
£100,000 which will help
1,000-1,500 mums start a small business.
We will be providing mums with access to tools and resources that will enable them to generate a sustainable income. With the hard work of mums, whole families are empowered and lifted from the cycle of poverty.
Those resources include sewing machines, farming supplies, bee keeping equipment and training, businesses, women’s lending circles, animals for breeding and milking, financial literacy workshops, micro-credit loans, business training sessions and women’s support groups. With these gifts, parents are given the education, tools and skills to sustain their incomes and break the cycle of poverty once and for all.
Some of our more adventurous staff have wholeheartedly taken onboard the 'fun' approach to fundraising and activities planned this year include climbing Mount Kenya and Mount Fuji, running the London Marathon and a 335km leisurely bike ride Rajasthan in Northern India.
