There's no secret to managing waste – we're following the three-step 'reduce, reuse, recycle' approach.
We recognise that our first priority is to reduce the amount of waste we generate in the first place; to re-use and recycle as much as we can of what's left and to generally avoid the use of landfill sites where possible.
Virgin Atlantic's Facilities team, together with our waste and office catering suppliers, have wasted no time in getting rid of polystyrene food containers and plastic cups, making sure that any redundant office furniture is sent to local charities for reuse, and otherwise focus on identifying recycling options for all sorts of waste, such as glass, plastics, cans and paper
It's a bit trickier on our planes, as European waste regulations make it impossible to recycle items arriving in the UK from outside the EU, which have been in contact with food. But our cabin crew collect recyclables such as cans and bottles, and our Inflight and Product teams are hard at work making sure that new products are lighter-weight, easier to reuse or recycle, and generally more sustainable than what they replace.
