Craig was appointed Chief Executive of Virgin Atlantic Airways on 1 February 2013 which has a fleet of 40 long haul aircraft, flying six million passengers a year all over the world. He joins from American Airlines (AA), where he had a 27-year career spanning commercial, financial and strategic roles in the US and around the globe.
Craig joined AA in 1985 as an analyst and was appointed Senior Vice President, Customer in 2012. He spent six years in London as Senior Vice President, International and was responsible for AA operations and sales throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Pacific. He has worked on AA joint ventures with British Airways and Iberia across the Atlantic, as well as its partnership with Japan Airlines in the Pacific.
Craig holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at San Diego, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Shai Weiss is Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Virgin Atlantic and an Executive Director of the Virgin Atlantic board. He is responsible for the financial operations of the business and oversees revenue management and strategy. Together with Craig Kreeger, CEO and the leadership team Shai is focused on achieving profitable growth combined with a healthy return on capital deployed.
He took up the position in July 2014 from Virgin Management Ltd, where he had been an Investment Partner since 2012and was a Founding Partner of Virgin Green Fund in 2007. Through his role at Virgin Group Shai was a member of the Virgin Atlantic board from summer 2012.
Shai has extensive financial and operational expertise. Prior to joining Virgin Group, Shai held several senior management positions at ntl:Telewest (now Virgin Media), the UK and Europe’s largest cable operator. Shai was part of the turn-around of ntl with roles including Managing Director of Consumer Products, Director of Operations, and Director of Financial Planning for the Consumer division. Shai was also behind the merger between Virgin Mobile UK and ntl:Telewest and the re-brand to Virgin Media.
Prior to ntl, Shai established the European office of early-stage technology venture fund JVP and was a senior associate with Morgan Stanley's hi-tech mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance teams from 1997 to 2000.
Shai holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York and a BBA from City University of New York, Baruch College. He resides in London with his family, attends Arsenal games whenever he can, reads The New Yorker magazine from cover to cover and attempts to play basketball.
Mark Anderson was appointed Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Virgin Holidays in April 2014. He joined the business in 2005 as General Manager – Service Delivery. Within two years, and leading a team of 200, he had taken customer satisfaction levels to a record high and driven Virgin Holidays in to the top 10 companies for customer service in the UK. He also oversaw the cross-functional delivery of the UK’s first leisure airport departure lounge – the v-room at London Gatwick.
Mark joined the Management Board in 2008 as Customer Director. During this time he expanded the ‘magic touches’ of the Virgin Holidays experience through a number of innovations including a second v-room at Manchester Airport, a Concierge outbound calling service and in-resort Concierge lounges exclusively for Virgin Holidays customers. Mark also assumed responsibility for the rapid expansion of the Virgin Holidays retail network, growing the number of outlets from 20 to over 100 in three years, achieving substantial cost savings while increasing profit per customer by 80% in the process.
In May 2013, Mark was appointed Sales & Customer Director, with direct responsibility for the performance of all offline sales channels. Within six months, his new Channel Management Strategy increased sales conversion and delivered half a million pounds of operating efficiencies.
Mark has over 20 years’ cumulative experience in the customer arena, including senior management and operational roles in the retail sector and with BAA.
Jill Brady is Executive Vice President, Customer at Virgin Atlantic. Jill oversees over 5,000 Virgin Atlantic employees, including cabin crew, customer relations and baggage services, contact centres, clubhouses and inflight services. Looking after the largest number of employees in the business, Jill is committed to ensuring that the customer is at the heart of all the airline’s decisions and activity.
Prior to heading up the customer team, Jill was the Virgin Atlantic’s General Counsel and Director of People, where her remit included HR, government affairs and the legal department. Additionally, Jill set up the Sustainability Team in November 2006, which aims to encourage the airline to become a more responsible and sustainable business.
Jill is a qualified lawyer and worked for leading London law firm, Lovell White Durrant, before joining Virgin Atlantic in 1994.
Nan Gibson is Senior Vice President, People at Virgin Atlantic and is responsible for the airline’s People Centre of Excellence. Nan joined Virgin Atlantic in November 2013 as Head of ER and HR Business Partners.
Nan has held a variety of customer service and linguist roles in the travel industry working for Cunard, Air Europe and Northwest Airlines. She joined Virgin Atlantic from American Airlines where she most recently held the position of Director International HR – Europe and Pacific. In that role, Nan oversaw all aspects of HR across multiple geographies and supported the restructuring of the company in 2012.
Nan has a Master of Arts in German from the University of St Andrews.
Phil Maher, Executive Vice President, Operations, is responsible for delivering a safe and secure, customer focussed and highly efficient world-class operation. Committed to continually driving improvements in safety and operational efficiency, Phil continues to build on Virgin Atlantic’s innovative product offering.
The Aircraft Operations division is over 2500 people strong and comprises Flight Operations, Corporate Safety & Security, Airports, Integrated Operations, Crew Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering & Aircraft Maintenance, Continued Airworthiness, Quality and Training, and Cabin Product & Maintenance.
Most recently, Phil spent 4 years as Director of Engineering. Here he led significant improvements in operational reliability and delivered substantial improvements in customer satisfaction, driven through the introduction of innovative cabin products and advanced inflight entertainment systems.
Since joining Virgin Atlantic in 2004, Phil has held posts as Senior Manager Base Maintenance & Cabin Product and General Manager Supply Chain. He is Virgin Atlantic’s Accountable Manager for all regulatory approvals and certificates for Operations, Engineering, Safety and Security.
Phil holds a Master’s Degree in Business from Henley and is a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and the Royal Aeronautical Society. He started his aviation career in the Army Air Corps at Baldonnel, Dublin and now resides in Berkshire with his wife and three children.
Don Langford is Senior Vice President, Technology and is responsible for leading Virgin Atlantic’s technology team. Don oversees all of the technology initiatives which are key components for positioning Virgin Atlantic for future success.
Don joined Virgin Atlantic from American Airlines and holds over 30 years’ experience in the airline industry. In his most recent role at American Airlines, Don was Vice President Customer Care based in Fort Worth, Texas. In that capacity he was responsible for 12 contact centres and 81 airports where he led over 8,000 employees across the globe. Don has also spent over a decade working for American Airlines in the UK, acquiring citizenship during that time. Here, he was Managing Director for Customer Service, Europe and India, and before that he held the role of Managing Director of AA’s operations at Heathrow.
Don graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1981. He and his family reside in London, from where he attends the matches of his beloved Manchester City whenever possible.
Meigan Terry joined Virgin Atlantic as Director of Communications in January 2014. Meigan is a highly experienced communications professional who oversees all of Virgin Atlantic’s internal and external communications.
Meigan joined Virgin Atlantic from BlackBerry where she most recently held the role of Global Vice President of Marketing for BBM, the popular messaging and social network service. Meigan also held a number of communications roles at BlackBerry, including Vice President of Corporate Communications for EMEA and APAC and Head of Global Advocacy.
Prior to joining BlackBerry in 2005, Meigan was an Associate Director for Hill & Knowlton London with high profile clients such as HP, British Telecom and Microsoft. Meigan was transferred to Hill & Knowlton London from Hill & Knowlton Toronto in 2000 and has been living and working in the UK ever since.
Erik is Executive Vice President, Commercial at Virgin Atlantic. He heads up a number of teams in the business, including sales and customer Engagement, marketing and customer experience, network and alliances and revenue management. In addition, Erik also looks after the airline’s international operations.
Having always admired Virgin Atlantic’s strong customer ethos, Erik is dedicated to ensuring the same principle is continued throughout his departments. Through his role, he’s committed to achieving further improvements in Virgin Atlantic’s proposition, as well as improving commercial results in an integrated way, contributing to the bottom line of the airline.
Erik joined Virgin Atlantic from KLM Group, where he gained over 25 years of experience leading and directing a variety of teams across revenue, network and alliances, international markets and marketing. Erik was a member of the KLM Managing Board and Group Executive Committee for Air France KLM and some of the key positions he held include Executive Vice President of Commercial and Executive Vice President, International and The Netherlands, Air France KLM.
Erik has led many change projects in KLM, including the development of e-commerce and social media, the changes in the distribution channels the design and introduction of new short and long haul business class seats and cabins. He was involved in the cooperation with Northwest Airlines from the early 1990s and the JV steering with Delta Airlines and efficiency programmes throughout the organisations he was responsible for.
Reuben is Senior Vice President, Marketing and Customer Experience, at Virgin Atlantic and is responsible for the airline’s customer experience offering in the air and on the ground as well as overseeing all design aspects around the business. Reuben also heads up the brand strategy for Virgin Atlantic and is tasked with the development of the brand identity and overall vision through sponsorship, advertising and marketing communications.
Reuben joined from Eurostar, the international high-speed rail operator, where he was responsible for all aspects of end to end customer experience. He led the company through significant change, including the introduction of a new range of travel classes and headed up the design process for Eurostar’s new fleet. He also led the design and build project for Eurostar’s flagship terminal at St Pancras International in London. Prior to this, Reuben held a number of senior operational management roles, including Head of Customer Service and Head of On Board Services.
Oliver Byers is Senior Vice President, Revenue Management, at Virgin Atlantic. He is responsible for pricing and revenue management, achieving Virgin Atlantic’s revenue targets and the development of Virgin Atlantic’s strategy. Oliver also holds additional responsibilities as Chief of Staff to Craig Kreeger.
Oliver joined Virgin Atlantic in early 2013 from the Virgin Group, where he developed their commercial strategy, working in the role of Office to the CEO. In this role he supported the overall implementation and delivery of the Group’s strategic agenda.
Alongside this role, Oliver was an Investment Manager at Virgin Management, advising several Virgin businesses on corporate development and strategy. In particular Oliver spent nine months at Virgin America where he led a review of their network and fleet strategy and developed a plan to turn the business to profitability. Oliver also advised Virgin Galactic on their strategy during their build up to first commercial flight and worked closely with the Virgin Atlantic team to negotiate commercial terms with Delta Airlines for the joint venture and purchase of 49% of Virgin Atlantic.
Oliver began his career as an investment banker at UBS, where he spent a successful two years advising UK companies on mergers, acquisitions and raising equity from capital markets.
Oliver lives in London having previously lived in San Francisco and Geneva. Oliver studied Aeronautical Engineering at Durham University and represented the university in both golf and skeleton.
John Lloyd joined Virgin Atlantic Cargo in 1987 and has over 27 years experience in the cargo industry. Whilst recognising Virgin Atlantic Cargo will never be the biggest cargo carrier, he has instilled a passion for customer service into the organisation that has ensured it is consistently rated as one of the best cargo carrying airlines in the world, winning 11 ‘Cargo Airline of the Year’ awards since 2002.
He joined Virgin Atlantic Cargo as Cargo Operations Officer based at Gatwick and has steadily progressed within the company from supervisory and management positions based at Heathrow and Gatwick, to General Manager – Operations and General Manager - Cargo until he was promoted to his current position of Senior Vice President, Cargo.
In his role, John and team manage Virgin Atlantic’s entire cargo operation around the world. In addition, Virgin Atlantic Cargo offers a further 350 on forwarding destinations worldwide including those of its partner, Virgin Australia.
Prior to joining Virgin Atlantic Cargo, John commenced his career in the air cargo industry in 1986, working for Gatwick Handling in their cargo office.
Joe Thompson is Senior Vice President, Sales and Distribution at Virgin Atlantic. Joe oversees Virgin Atlantic’s global sales and distribution activities, heading up a team of approximately 220 people and leading the airline’s relationships with corporate customers and distribution partners. Joe also holds responsibility for the Delta Air Lines joint venture ensuring increased sales and account coordination between the two airlines.
Joe joined Virgin Atlantic in 2003 from an aviation consultancy practice. He has held a number of senior manager roles in the airline's commercial department and has led country teams in both Hong Kong and India with responsibility for all Virgin Atlantic’s passenger activities in those territories.
Joe spent two years as General Manager Airport Operations, where he led great progress in operational performance and customer service across the network, and oversaw Virgin Atlantic’s airport teams in the launch of the airline’s domestic service Little Red. He became Director of Short Haul and Joint Venture Performance in spring 2013 before taking over as Senior Vice President of Network and Alliances in spring 2014. Joe took on the sales and distribution remit in November 2015.
